Gerard Houllier can bring taste of past Liverpool glories to Aston Villa, insists Emile Heskey
Old pals: Gerard Houllier (right) sent on Emile Heskey, his former charge at Liverpool, to great effect in his debut as Villa manager on Wednesday[LNB]Emile Heskey has backed Gerard Houllier to emulate his success at Liverpool in his new role as Aston Villa manager. [LNB]The Frenchman got off to a flying start as Villa boss on Wednesday night with a 3-1 Carling Cup win over Blackburn in his first game in charge. [LNB]The victory was inspired by Heskey, who came off the bench to score an equaliser before turning provider for two-goal winger Ashley Young, and the ex-England forward was clearly delighted with once again linking up with his former boss at Liverpool.[LNB] Houllier became a hero at Anfield after leading the Reds to an impressive FA, League and UEFA cup treble in 2001 and Heskey has no doubts Villa can also flourish under their new regime. [LNB]Heskey said: 'All the lads are buzzing and we want to get on with the season. We have had a few changes but all the lads are very positive and we are going to go on from this. [LNB]'It's nice [being reunited with his former boss]. I know all about him and, fingers crossed, he will bring the good times back to Villa. He did brilliantly at Liverpool and I'm sure he could do the same here. [LNB]'Everyone's got their different approaches. He is disciplined on and off the park and that's one of the things he definitely brings. It's all about winning trophies. I have managed that in my career and I want it to carry on.' [LNB]On his own star turn against Blackburn, Heskey added: 'You come into a game and you're looking to make an impact - it was nice to have that impact. The lads were plugging away and doing well. When you come on as a sub you try to do something positive and that's what I managed, which was great. [LNB]'It was nice to get out there and contribute to the team. The manager told us it's not just the XI on the park, it's the subs too and the lads in the stands as well. Everyone is part of it and we need everyone focusing on the same goal.
