Gardner expects family success

Aston Villa midfielder Craig Gardner has backed younger brother Gary to break into the club's senior set-up in the near future. The elder Gardner played alongside his 17-year-old sibling for the first time during a reserve clash with Wolves in midweek. Gary, who also plays in the centre of midfield, has impressed in both the youth and reserve sides at Aston Villa. And Craig believes he is in the perfect position to offer his brother some valuable advice as he looks to make the step-up into the first-team squad. "Gary sometimes asks me about his game and I tell him what I have done to get where I am now," he said. "I've told him he should keep his feet on the ground and, if he does that, I'm sure he will get his chance because the manager (Martin O'Neill) encourages the young lads. "Gary flew out to Spain for the Peace Cup pre-season and loved every minute of it. He's strong, he's good with both feet and he's a quick thinker. "He's a good lad and a great professional. Believe me, he will go far."
