Gabriel Agbonlahor injury leaves Aston Villa with striker shortage

Agbonlahor, who has scored 13 times this season, limped out of the action during the second half and will undergo a scan in the next 24 hours to determine the extent of the problem. Villa manager Martin O'Neill is already without the injured Emile Heskey, with John Carew his only experienced forward. Unproven Nathan Delfouneso came on to replace Agbonlahor at Villa Park yesterday. Agbonlahor said: "There is something wrong with my hamstring. I don't know what it is. We'll have to wait and see the results of a scan. "I got the ball and pulled up and came off as a precaution. I don't know how long I'll be out for. "It felt pretty sore during the game but I came off when I did because I didn't want to make it worse." O'Neill revealed Agbonlahor had defied a virus to play before his hamstring blow. He said: "Gabby played against Everton after not training for the two days before the game. He had not been feeling great. "But we always knew he wanted to come out and play and this is one of the big things about him and Ashley Young and a number of the other lads – they want to play. "When Gabby came off, his hamstring was sore. Everything was wrong with him in terms of not being physically fit for the game but he still did great. That is the kind of character he is." O'Neill also conceded that a draw with Everton had all but dashed his side's chances of challenging Arsenal for fourth spot. Despite twice coming back from a two goal deficit, he said: "It is going to be very difficult now with Arsenal having won at Wigan on Saturday. It's looking slightly less than rosy now. "Either ourselves or Everton had to win to keep the challenge alive."
