Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged team-mate Gareth Barry to sign a new deal at Aston Villa.[LNB] Barry's future was the subject of intense speculation last summer with a protracted move to Liverpool finally failing to materialise.[LNB]The England international has shrugged off the transfer saga to be a mainstay in Villa's pursuit of success this season.[LNB]Barry has just 18 months to run on his contract and Villa boss Martin O'Neill admitted earlier this month he would not stand in the player's way if he wanted to leave in the summer.[LNB]However, Agbonlahor hopes Barry will stay at Villa as it will send out the right signals about the club's ambition.[LNB]"I think Gareth ought to sign a new contract. It would show our expectations for the rest of the season and next season," said Agbonlahor.[LNB]"I don't really like commenting on him but it would mean a lot, especially for the young lads because he's been here so long.[LNB]Stay"I'd like him to stay at the club but obviously it's his choice what he does. If he stays and Stiliyan Petrov signs his new contract, it will be good for the club.[LNB]"Gareth is really good with the whole team and that's why it's been good that he's been captain because he sets a good example."[LNB]Agbonlahor admitted: "I used to watch him a lot when I was coming through the ranks here. He's been at Villa a long time and he hasn't missed many games either.[LNB]"He does seem like an old man to me! But he doesn't look it, he looks young, and he doesn't play like it."[LNB]
