EXCLUSIVE: Pompey pair James and Distin pushed to the breaking point

David James looks set to be the next high-profile player on his way out of Portsmouth as the future of the club hangs in the balance. The Fratton Park outfit, who lost their opening-day game to Fulham, have sold £80million-worth of players, including Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, in the past year. And the England No 1, who is being monitored by Tottenham, has expressed his concerns over the saga of Sulaiman Al Fahim's proposed takeover despite assurances from the Arab businessman that his £60m buyout is still on track. There is a growing feeling that James's loyalty could be stretched to breaking point. Sylvain Distin is also believed to share James's concerns about boardroom activities at Pompey and the classy defender would not be short of suitors. Manager Paul Hart has warned about the damage losing more of his key players would have on his chances of avoiding relegation. In the wake of Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Fulham, which Al Fahim attended, Hart said: 'I try to keep players informed of what's going on. But I can only give answers to the questions I know the answers to... it's getting a bit like Fawlty Towers.' Spurs would be tempted to move for James if Carlo Cudicini could be off-loaded. Distin has been linked with Sunderland, Aston Villa and a return to Manchester City.
