Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne believes his new club have the ability to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The ex-Manchester City captain completed his move to Villa Park on Wednesday after the necessary paperwork was filed before Tuesday's 5pm deadline. Dunne has now set his sights on finishing in the top four of the Premier League, a target his former club have their eyes on. Villa sat in the top four for a large part of last season and Dunne believes Martin O'Neill's side will have benefited from that experience. "I'm delighted. It's a great opportunity for me. Obviously Aston Villa have improved each season recently," he told the club's official website. "Hopefully I can be part of a squad that can challenge for a Champions League spot. "I think with Aston Villa, with the experience they would have gained from last season - they went so close for so long at the top end and the manager has bought in some new players into the squad this year - maybe it might help us go that bit further." Villa also signed James Collins on deadline day and the Wales international is relishing the competition for places in O'Neill's plans. "Richard Dunne's a fantastic signing so there's going to be serious competition for places," said Collins. "But I think you need that because that keeps an edge to your performance and gets you playing well. "I'm looking forward to the challenge and the sooner we get started the better."
