Dunne delighted with Villa spirit

Republic of Ireland defender Dunne joined Villa from Manchester City before the closure of the transfer window and was initially disappointed at being moved on. However, Dunne has made an immediate impact at Villa, scoring against his former club and in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Chelsea. He has also formed a solid partnership with fellow new-boy James Collins and has been impressed by the level of camaraderie within the Villa squad. "I left Man City and that was it," said Dunne. "As soon as you come somewhere else there is no point moping about and being sulky. "I have come here and want to try and blend in as quickly as I could and thankfully everyone has been really good. "You can't buy what we have got here. You can see the team spirit when we go out and play games due to the amount of work we are putting in for each other. "People are always going on about the bigger clubs who have spent a lot more money. But it is all down to the attitude of the players and the attitude here is second to none. "The team spirit is spilling out into our performances and as long as we keep working as hard, we will be a match for any side. "More or less everyone in the team are friends and when someone doesn't get something you want to cover your mate and be there to help them. "It has been really good and we are fighting at the right end of the table. At the moment it looks like we could have a good season." Dunne, meanwhile, has modestly played down his goalscoring exploits. Speaking in the wake of his latest goal against Chelsea, Dunne told AVTV: "It's nice for people to score, but the amount of work we put in all over the pitch - Gabby [Agbonlahor] was frightening in the first half and John [Carew] won every single header - it runs right through the team. "As long as we are winning games and working hard for each other, we will stay happy. "It goes right through the team and we are all happy no matter who is scoring. "From the top men all the way back to Brad [Friedel], we all worked really hard, dug in and made tackles at the right times. Dunne's 32nd-minute header at the weekend cancelled out Didier Drogba's opener, but it was his central defensive partner James Collins who clinched victory seven minutes after the break. The pair both arrived at Villa Park in £5million moves as the summer window drew to a close, and the Irishman has been hugely impressed with his Welsh counterpart. Dunne said: "He's been outstanding since he has come in. Every game has been brilliant. "In this game [Chelsea], he really topped it off. Any ball that came in the box, he headed out and on the ground, he dived in front of it. "Then for him to get the winner was really good. I think he is really enjoying himself, as am I. "It's going well and it's nice that we can score goals. The important thing is keeping them out, but for him to get the winner is also nice." Aston Villa 11/10, Wolves 12/5, Draw 12/5
