Downing wants to maintain form for Villa

Stewart Downing admits Aston Villa's trio of England players have to reproduce their international form at club level in the battle for Barclays Premier League survival.

Darren Bent, Ashley Young and Downing all made sizeable contributions between them during the double header with Wales and Ghana. Bent scored one and Young set up both goals in England's 2-0 win at the Millennium Stadium before Downing was voted the man of the match at Wembley on Tuesday.

But Downing is aware similar levels of performance are needed for Villa, who are currently just one point above the relegation zone, and said: "Coming to England gives you confidence if you play well in the team. Benty got a goal on Saturday, Ashley Young has played very well so we aim to put that into our club performances now."

He added: "We've got big tests ahead for us and hopefully we can produce that back at Villa.

"It has been a big week for the Villa contingent. In the Under-21s, Mark Albrighton played well and Nathan Delfouneso got a goal.

"A good week, but we have to transfer that into our club football now - and get results."
