Delph keen to scale the heights

Fabian Delph believes he is finally poised to fulfil his potential by helping lift Aston Villa up the Premier League table.

The former England Under-21 midfielder was seen as one of the hottest properties in the game when he signed for Villa from Leeds for £6million in 2009, but injuries have blighted his claret and blue career so far. However, the 22-year-old says he is now fully fit and, while the majority of his team-mates have been away on international duty this week, Delph has been battling away right under manager Paul Lambert's nose to let him know how keen he is to succeed.

"I feel good and I feel stronger than I have in the past," he told the Birmingham Evening Post.

"I started the season then ended up out of the team but I've been working hard and managed to get back in.

"I'm pleased with that but I want to push on, do better and have a lot more of an impact than I have done.

"I had a good run last year but I wasn't fully fit. I am now and it is nice. People judge you when you get a run of games in the team and it is nice to be judged when you are fully fit."
