Fabian Delph has revealed that Martin O'Neill's ability to develop young English players was a major factor in his decision to join Aston Villa. The England Under 21 international completed a move to Villa from Leeds United on Tuesday evening for an undisclosed fee. A number of other Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, had been interested in signing the midfielder but he is convinced he made the right choice. He is hoping to break into the team and expects to be given opportunities to impress by manager O'Neill. O'Neill has helped the likes of Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and James Milner to realise their potential and Delph is excited about the prospect of playing alongside some of the best players in the country. "There are a lot of young English players here, an absolutely superb manager and this is the club I've chosen to play for so hopefully I can do well," he told the club's official website. "I'm absolutely delighted. It's a big step up but I'm looking forward to it and hopefully I can do well. "I've managed to get the move here and I'm going to work my hardest and hopefully the gaffer will give me the opportunity to play. "I've been to look at the ground and it's absolutely unreal. It's mind blowing. "If I get the chance to play in it and do well I'll be really chuffed with myself."
