Defender to listen to medical advice

Davies has been troubled by his shoulder since his days as a West Brom player but has managed to continue playing without too many interruptions to his career. But the shoulder has now popped out three times in the past three weeks, the latest being during Thursday night's Europa League qualifier with Rapid Vienna. He said: "I am disappointed because I managed to get through the game on Monday at Liverpool with no problems at all. I got a goal and felt good. "Do I need surgery? Possibly. We will have to look at things. I don't know if it needs a rest or something needs to be done, I don't know. "I need to speak to the boss. I can't just make the decision myself because I am not a doctor. I'll speak to the doctor and then we'll go with however he wants to do it." Davies explained: "It happened about four years ago when I was at Albion in training. "It never happened again until the away FA Cup tie with Everton last season and then didn't happen until Porto in the Peace Cup three weeks ago. "But since then, it's been awkward. I managed to get through a game two days later which shows it is erratic but it can't keep happening and I need to make sure it is right. "It is something surgery can heal but it means a lengthy lay-off so you have to weigh up the pros and cons. I want to play as many games as I can this year. "I need a big year but at the same time I'd rather be playing at 100% strength rather than 50% strength because it is no good playing with one arm every game. "I think the lay-off is three to four months. Luke Moore had it before and it was three to four months. I'll take advice from the medical experts. "For it to happen twice in a week is a lot. I need to address it." Whether he continues playing or not, Davies is bracing himself for competition from Richard Dunne should his transfer from Manchester City be completed after the clubs agreed a fee. Davies is surprised that Dunne's days at Eastlands appear to be numbered. He said: "I am surprised that City are edging him out of the door. As much as they have made signings, Stephen Ireland has been one of their best players but, after him, Richard Dunne has to be up there. "He has been a stalwart. He has played with a lot of different centre-halfs but he has always looked good. It would be strange if they were to let him go but it would be a good addition here. "Their loss would be our gain because his experience is untold - but he has still got enough in the tank to play for a few more years."
