Defender Bouma free to exit Villa

Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma has been told he is free to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.Bouma, 31, has been out of action since dislocating his ankle in an Intertoto Cup tie against Danish side Odense at Villa Park in July 2008. [LNB]Villa manager Martin O'Neill told the club website: "He has been really unfortunate to be sidelined. [LNB]"I have the utmost regard for him and he has been a totally positive influence throughout my time here." [LNB]O'Neill continued: "He has fought back strongly to get himself fit again and he really wants to get back to the level of which he is undoubtedly still capable, so he wants to take this opportunity to do that and I wish him only the best." [LNB]The Netherlands international moved to Villa in August 2005 from PSV Eindhoven and made 90 appearances for the club, scoring one goal. [LNB]His contract at Villa Park was due to expire in June.
