Davies out to make amends
Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies wants to banish memories of the 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season by beating Chelsea on Saturday, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1.[LNB] The 23-year-old was hauled off at half-time by manager Martin O'Neill as Villa were outclassed by a Chelsea side that were then top of the table.[LNB]The former Luton ace featured in the club's next game against Portsmouth but then found himself dropped for the following four fixtures.[LNB]It seems to have had the desired affect as now, almost five months on from the defeat in West London, things have changed considerably.[LNB]Early season pace-setters Chelsea now sit fourth, two points behind Villa, and Davies has recovered to establish himself as one of the club's key figures in their backline, playing in 19 of the last 22 games since his omission from the first team.[LNB]"Chelsea gave us a footballing lesson at their place," Davies said.[LNB]"After they beat us like they did, I tipped them to win the league because I thought they were unbelievable.[LNB]"I know that first game was a bit of an off day for me and I came out of the team for three or four games.[LNB]"I was a bit upset but that's football. You need to come back and bounce back stronger.[LNB]Succeed"I thought about what happened the night after the game. I always try and analyse my game myself with my dad or on my own.[LNB]"I know when I've done wrong and know when I've done right and I try to adjust and basically try and become a better player every game.[LNB]"The next day is a new day and if you think about what has happened too much you are never going to succeed."[LNB]Davies' desire and determination are highlighted in the fact that the centre-half is currently playing through the pain barrier.[LNB]After dislocating his shoulder in the FA Cup defeat to Everton last Sunday Davies played on and managed the full 90 minutes in Wednesday's Uefa Cup tie with CSKA Moscow.[LNB]With Zat Knight Villa's only other fit centre-back, Davies knows he must battle on and the game with Chelsea is now the only thing on his mind.[LNB]"People say we can go five points clear of Chelsea by winning but we have just got to go out there, play our football and not worry about the table," he added.[LNB]"We just want to win the game.[LNB]"Whatever team Chelsea put out is going to be one of the strongest teams in the world so it is going to be a hard task anyway.[LNB]"Whether they have got a new manager or not, we need to be on our own game."[LNB]
