Davies demands Villa home comforts

Villa won a club record eight successive away matches and in total triumphed 10 times on their travels in securing sixth place. But in front of their own supporters they managed just seven victories - the same number as bottom placed West Brom. Martin O'Neill's side struggled to break down teams and managed just 27 goals in 19 home games. Davies said: "It was a case of, because we started the season well, clubs were coming to Villa Park and sitting back. "I had never experienced that in my playing time with West Brom and Luton. "We weren't able to break sides down whereas away from home we were able to stretch teams with our pace and big players like John Carew, "Teams at home can't sit back and just let us have free runs at them. That is why we won more games away. "This season, the key will be to get a game plan to work out if teams are going to sit back. It is a tough ask but hopefully we can combat that." Davies is looking for Villa to continue where they left off when the new season gets under way in a fortnight's time at home to Wigan. He said: "At least we managed to end last season on a good note. It is just a shame that through the middle bit, we couldn't get the wins that we needed "But hopefully come this season, we will get the wins and that will show with the number of points."
