Collins completes Villa move
Aston Villa have completed the signing of defender James Collins from West Ham.
The 26-year-old Wales international has moved to Villa Park on a four-year contract.
The two clubs agreed a £5million fee and the deal was concluded after Collins completed a medical and finalised personal terms at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground on Monday.
"It's been a mad 24 hours since coming up here but I'm delighted to have it all sorted," said Collins.
"I came yesterday and met the manager and had a look around. It's a fantastic setting. I just can't wait to get cracking now.
"Aston Villa is a massive club so, after coming here looking around the place - and I'm friendly with a few of the boys as well - it didn't take a lot of persuading on my part."
Collins has made over 50 Premier League appearances since joining West Ham from Cardiff in 2005 and has started each of the Hammers' opening three league games this season.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill was eager to boost his defensive ranks after Martin Laursen retired at the end of last season and Curtis Davies was sidelined with a dislocated shoulder.
Collins is set to make his Villa debut in the second city derby with Birmingham at St. Andrews on 13th September.
"I loved my time at West Ham but I believe I have taken a step forward," he added.
"I have come to Aston Villa to improve as a player and hopefully improve their team. I'll be looking to do that straight away."
