Carew to break transfer trend

John Carew intends to break his transfer trend and commit his long-term future to Aston Villa. Not many can compete with the much-travelled Nicolas Anelka, who has featured for no less than eight different European clubs in his career, except Carew that is. The Norwegian international has earned a similar reputation to Anelka for not staying at clubs more than a couple of seasons and the 29-year-old striker has been linked with moves to either Werder Bremen or Galatasaray of late. But Villa's joint top scorer, who has had spells at Valencia, Roma, Besiktas and Lyon before joining Martin O'Neill's side, insists his long-term future lies with the Midlands outfit. "I am very happy here. I don't want to leave this club. I love being here and everything about it - the fans, the players, everyone," said the 13-goal marksman, who has gained cult status in the Holte End since arriving in January 2007. "I see no reason why I should leave. I am enjoying my football and I am happy to be contributing towards the cause and for the good of Aston Villa." Villa Future Villa boss O'Neill has called for Carew to add greater consistency to his game in recent weeks but is keen for him to remain and form part of a potent strikeforce alongside Gabriel Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey. The Irishman added: "Has Carew got a future here? Yes. Is he happy here? Yes. The crowd love him and he responds to that." Villa will bid to end their dismal sequence of 12 games without a win when they entertain relegation-threatened Hull on Monday evening. O'Neill said: "The mere fact is that we would just like to win a game. Performances have been excellent. We would just like to turn them into a victory. That would be excellent." Agbonlahor looks like winning his fitness battle after missing last weekend's 1-1 draw at Bolton with a hamstring injury.
