Bouma back in action for reserves

The Holland international dislocated an ankle during the Intertoto Cup clash with Odense BK at Villa Park in July. But he made his comeback in the reserve encounter with Chelsea on Monday evening and completed the full 90 minutes in Villa's 4-3 win. Bouma had been due to play in the second-team game with Arsenal two weeks ago but felt some soreness in his leg on the day of the game and was withdrawn as a precaution. He was a key member of the Villa side which finished in the top six of the Premier League last season and was part of Holland's Euro 2008 squad. Villa boss Martin O'Neill signed Nicky Shorey from Reading as a replacement but he has struggled to hold down a first-team spot with right-back Luke Young switching flanks to fill the gap. Meanwhile, Villa reserve midfielder Isaiah Osbourne has signed for Nottingham Forest on a two-month loan deal. Osbourne has been on the periphery of O'Neill's squad this season and has made only three starts - against FH Hafnarfjordur and MSK Zilina in the UEFA Cup and QPR in the League Cup.
