Benteke signs new Aston Villa deal, snubbing Spurs in the process?

Christian Benteke, one of the few players to come out with in any credit in Aston Villa’s dreadful season, has surprised everyone by suddenly deciding to show some loyalty to the Villa by signing a new lucrative contract extension. This supposedly will keep the big Belgian at Villa Park until 2017, although if he has another successful season this year Villa will struggle to resist the offers, which will surely come flooding in for him.

Villa manager Paul Lambert could not contain his delight, as he told the BBC “It is my opinion that the best thing for Christian is to remain at Aston Villa. He enjoyed a terrific first season at the club and can use that as a platform to hopefully enjoy more success this season. It's a huge bonus and I'm sure the supporters are every bit as delighted as me to have him on board and raring to go."

Benteke bagged 23 goals in all competitions and the news that he has signed for Aston Villa will be a huge disappointment for many clubs who were keeping tabs on him. Spurs fans in particular will be upset, as they saw Benteke as being the beginning of a new Belgian beginning with a number of players from the region rumoured to be on AvB’s short-list.
