Bent rallies Villa troops

Striker Darren Bent has challenged Aston Villa to improve on the worst season of home results in their history and make Villa Park a fortress again.

Villa won just four of their 19 Barclays Premier League matches in front of their own fans during 2011-2012 as they avoided relegation by only two points.

England international Bent knows Villa have to do better than that during the forthcoming campaign. He said: "Last season our home form let us down and we need to improve on that this season. We want fans to wake up and think 'yes, it's match-day and we are off to Villa Park'."

He added: "I know last season was difficult for the fans. At times we weren't playing the best, but I'm sure this season will be better."

Villa remain confident of completing the signing of Dutch international defender Ron Vlaar from Feyenoord in the next couple of days.

The 27-year-old centre half, who has agreed personal terms, will undergo a medical before the three-year deal is finalised.
