Bebe in dire Manchester United debut: £7.4m striker makes reserves bow

Bebe finally got his first game in a Manchester United shirt on Thursday night - a month after joining in a shock £7.4m deal.

It was not at Old Trafford, but at Altrincham's Moss Lane ground. And it wasn't for the real United, but their reserves.

Teething problems: Bebe struggled to make an impression on his debut for the reserves

Sir Alex Ferguson, who signed Bebe without watching him play, didn't turn up to see him last night either - which was just as well for the Portuguese, who put in an anonymous display against Aston Villa.

Bebe, whose last game was in Portugal's third division, started on the right wing.

He picked out Ravel Morrison with his first cross, but that was to prove the high point.

A switch to the left didn't help matters and Villa won 4-1.
