Hitting back at Benitez: City new boy Gareth Barry[LNB]Gareth Barry has told Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez he joined Manchester City because he wanted to win trophies.[LNB]Barry came close to joining the Reds last summer but Aston Villa rejected Benitez's £15m bid for the midfielder.[LNB]The England international stayed on at Villa before sealing a £12m move to moneybags City this summer.[LNB]He signed a five-year contract worth £130,000-a-week which is believed to be £30,000 a week more than Barry would have earned at Anfield.[LNB]Benitez clamed Barry's switch to Eastlands was motivated bymoney despite the fact Villa boss Martin O'Neill confirmed Liverpool made no new move following their failure to secure the transfer the previous summer.[LNB]However the 28-year-old says he is not motivated by money and insists he only decided to leave Aston Villa after 12 seasons in the hope of winning trophies at City.[LNB]He told Sport: 'Criticism is inevitable when clubs spend money like City have done this summer, but the truth is I didn't win anything at Aston Villa and I want that statistic to change during my time at City.[LNB]'I'm hoping to be a success with this club - not just this season - but for many to come. I want to give myself a chance of playing in a team that is winning chances.'[LNB] It's nothing personal we just want to sign the best, says moneybags Manchester City boss Mark Hughes Manchester City topple the mighty Barcelona - now can they do it for real?Roque Santa Cruz all set for Manchester City debut against rivals United at Old Trafford MANCHESTER CITY FC
