Match Preview

Aston Villa aim to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to ten matches when they play a Sunderland side that have only won once on their travels so far this season.

Villa are the only team not to have lost a league game in 2010, but their push for a top-four place has stalled as they have drawn six of the games in their unbeaten sequence, including Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wolves when their own fans booed them off at half-time.

Despite the Black Cats' dreadful away form, they have picked up several good results recently, ending a 14-match winless streak by thrashing Bolton Wanderers 4-0 earlier this month and beating Birmingham City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

In between these two games, they were only denied a 1-0 victory against Manchester City by Adam Johnson's stoppage-time equaliser.

Villa have won their last three league meetings with Sunderland, scoring twice in each game, while Steve Bruce's side have failed to score in both meetings with Wednesday's opponents this season in the league and Carling Cup.

Villa have lost only one of their last 14 home league games and have one of the in-form strikers in the country in John Carew, who has found the net seven times in his last six appearances in all competitions, including both goals against Wolves on Saturday.

Sunderland's only away success this term came on the opening weekend of the season when they secured a 1-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers since when they have drawn three and lost ten of their games away from Wearside.

Although Sunderland have one of the top goalscorers in the country in Darren Bent, who now has 20 after scoring a brace against Birmingham, they will be without Kenwyne Jones against Villa as the Trinidad & Tobago international is sidelined with a groin injury.
