Scott Hogan to miss out for Aston Villa

Aston Villa will be without striker Scott Hogan for the visit of Derby.

The January signing from Brentford was carried off on a stretcher during the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday night and Villa are awaiting the results of scans to determine how long he will be out, with the initial prognosis around a month.

Fellow forward Jonathan Kodjia, who Derby were interested in signing in August, limped off at St James' Park and his knock will be assessed.

Teenage defender James Bree is back in training after a knee injury and he will hope to make his home debut following his arrival from Barnsley last month.

Derby will check on the fitness of Craig Bryson and Johnny Russell but Nick Blackman is likely to remain out.

Bryson has missed the last two matches with a hip injury and the midfielder has had an injection to help it settle. Forward Russell was absent against Burton in midweek after tweaking a hamstring in training.

It was hoped both players would train on Thursday to give them a chance of being involved at Villa Park. However, striker Blackman continues to struggle with a knee problem.

Rams boss Steve McClaren has the likes of Marcus Olsson, Jason Shackell, Bradley Johnson, Abdoul Camara, Matej Vydra and David Nugent to call on as he looks for a first win in five Sky Bet Championship games.
