Aston Villa are thought to be preparing a package worth close to £3million a season over two years to try and tempt Michael Owen to the club. Owner Randy Lerner refused to comment on any move for Newcastle striker Owen when he faced the media two weeks ago. But he hinted that the club may be in the market for free transfer swith investment in Martin O'Neill's team likely to be less than it was12 months ago. Villa now look set to offer Owen £55,000 a week as part of a two-year contract with a further 12-month option. It is believed O'Neill may want to review Owen's terms after a year depending on his fitness if the 28-year-old forward comes to Villa Park following a poor season at relegated Newcastle. Everton are also keen to sign Owen but O'Neill would give him the chance to play alongside his former Liverpool and England strike partner Emile Heskey.
