It is understood that Downing would cost in the region of £12 million, with Tuncay worth around £6 million. The Express also reports that Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate is unlikely to stand in the duo's way after the club were relegated last season. Southgate's counterpart, Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill, is believed to be an admirer of Downing, which will raise doubts over Ashley Young's future at Villa Park. Martin O'Neill is also understood to be on the look-out for a playmaker such as Tuncay, who has impressed since adapting to English football in 2007, when he joined Middlesbrough. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough winger Downing is ready to step up his recovery from foot surgery next week. The 24-year-old was injured in a challenge with Villa's Stiliyan Petrov last season. Southgate told the club's website: "He is due to see a specialist on July 7. "We expect him to be given the go-ahead to step up his rehabilitation from there."
