Gerard Houllier heads for Bloomfield Road for the first time this season, happy in his own mind that he has nothing to apologise for over Aston Villa's conduct during their pursuit of Charlie Adam.[LNB] Villa's boss left his normal scouting duties of the Tangerines to another member of his backroom staff as he was unsure of the reception he would receive following Ian Holloway's vigorous defence of Blackpool's position during the transfer window.[LNB] Man in the middle: Charlie Adam[LNB] Villa tabled three offers for the Scot, rising to ?4.5m, but it was insufficient to prise Adam away as Houllier, along with Kenny Dalglish, was thwarted in their respective bids.[LNB] Holloway accused Villa of leaking the story and followed it up by saying he didn't want his prized asset to leave for a 'half-a***d club that used to be famous whose manager is on a sticky wicket.' [LNB] Houllier hit back at the time by claiming that Villa had acted properly and stood by those comments yesterday.[LNB] 'We never made our interest in Adam public,' said Villa's boss, 'we never made it public from our side.[LNB] 'What we did was in a legal way. You can check with chief executive Paul Faulkner or the chairman. It did not go public because of us.[LNB] Rivals: Houllier (left) and Holloway[LNB] 'I said at the time I believed it was double-standards because Ian then said to Kenny (Dalglish) that his (Liverpool's) offer couldn't come from Kenny itself, it had to come from the club.[LNB] 'And he had words. That makes football life. But Ian should have checked with us.[LNB] 'Having said that, I'll be happy to see him. I'll shake his hand. I'll even hug him if he wants me to. It is water under the bridge. It's finished.[LNB] 'Look, I'm not bearing a grudge. You know in this game at some stage you get knocks and betrayals and funny comments.[LNB] 'I might have been worried if I was in his position and there was the possibility of him losing one of his better players.'
