. Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has received a huge boost after medical staff revealed to him that he does not require surgery after suffering from chest pains. [LNB]The Villa boss was  admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after complaining of  severe pain on Wednesday night. [LNB]Medics have been running a number of tests on the 63-year-old, the results of which have shown that the Frenchman will not need to go under the knife. [LNB] Relief: Houllier will not need further surgery on his chest following a heart operation ten years ago[LNB]Houllier has been speaking with his Villa Park assistant Gary McAllister on the phone about team tactics for the forthcoming home clash Stoke. But he is unlikely to return to the dugout before the end of the season. [LNB]Theformer Liverpool manager had an 11-hour operation after suffering a ruptured aorta in October 2001 during a match at Anfield against Leeds United and this fresh health scare casts doubts over his ability to resume duties. [LNB]McAllister, who was a player at Liverpool when Houllier underwent surgery in 2001, said: 'I visited Gerard yesterday in hospital after training and was surprised how well he looked.[LNB]'It was really surprising. If you took away all the stuff attached to his arms, he didn't look ill. He is on the coronary ward. He was great and bubbly. He had a tough night but he was looking surprisingly well and in fine fettle.'[LNB]When asked if Houllier would need surgery, McAllister said: 'They (the specialists) are definitely saying there is no surgery needed, which is a massive plus.[LNB] Recovery: Houllier will not be returning to the Villa dugout this season [LNB]'The last time there was major surgery. This time there will be no surgery needed, purely medicine and rest.'[LNB]McAllister is confident the players will rally around Houllier in the same way as when Phil Thompson took charge at Anfield in the absence of the Frenchman.[LNB]He said: 'There was shock within the Liverpool dressing room and we knew there was a major problem with the length of the surgery and what it entailed. It was a big operation.[LNB]'But Phil Thompson came in and that midweek we went to Kiev for a Champions League game and it was the firsttime Kiev had been beaten in Russia.[LNB]'The players rallied and were playing for the manager and I'm sure that is what will happen here. A perfect tonic for the manager will be getting three points against Stoke.'[LNB]Villa owner Randy Lerner was made aware of the situation and is due to fly over from New York for Saturday's clash with the Potters.
