AS Roma suffered a disastrous evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to lowly Livorno, while also losing skipper Francesco Totti to a serious knee injury.
Totti had to be replaced shortly before half-time in the Stadio Olimpico, before Mirko Vucinic gave the home side the lead nine minutes after the restart.
However, substitute Alessandro Diamanti rescued a point for Livorno seven minutes from time to complete a bad evening for Roma.
After the game all the talk was about Totti, with Roma's chief medical officer, Mario Brozzi, saying: "Francesco sustained a trauma to his right knee and I looked at it the first time, but it was just a bruise and he chose to play on.
"After a few minutes he hurt himself when kicking the ball and so we decided to immediately take him off.
"The tests show a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament. Later we will decide on the best strategy, but his season is over."
In the day's other game, Fiorentina edged out Palermo 1-0 thanks to a Marco Donadel strike on the half-hour mark, with the visitors having Leandro Rinaudo sent off 17 minutes from time.
