Toni not focused on World Cup
02 Jan 2010 - 14:42:40
Luca Toni is happy to put his World Cup hopes on hold despite returning to Italy with AS Roma.
Toni, 32, is looking to play more first-team football with the Giallorossi after spending the first half of the season on the sidelines at Bayern Munich following a dispute with coach Louis van Gaal.
The former Napoli and Fiorentina striker has arrived in the Eternal City on loan and insists Roma is his number one priority despite the World Cup finals begin less than six months away.
"I didn't come to Roma just for the World Cup," he said. "Now my aim is to score a lot of goals and play well in the Giallorossi shirt.
"Then we will see what happens in June.
"Before anything I want to earn my place and score a lot of goals for the fans and my team-mates. Physically I'm fine, the (knee) injury is now just a memory."
Toni has scored 16 goals in 47 international appearances for the Azzurri.
