AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti hopes Wednesday's 3-1 Champions League win at Bordeaux will silence those calling for his head following his side's erratic start to the season.

The Rome club bounced back from an opening day shock defeat at the hands of CFR Cluj to kick-start their Champions League campaign in France courtesy of goals from Mirko Vucinic (2) and Julio Baptista.

"Winning is the best medicine," he said. "Only through victories you find enthusiasm. We have won and we are happy.

"We endured a difficult start but after the interval I really liked the way my team played.

"My players showed courage and they gained confidence as the game went on."
