Spalletti accepts the blame

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti insists there is no-one to blame but himself for the club's poor season.

The weekend derby defeat to Lazio left Roma eight points behind fourth-placed Genoa and in grave danger of missing out on a Champions League spot.

Spalletti admitted: "In a troubled season I don't see why I should be courteous. If the team is doing badly, one always holds the greatest responsibility and commits major faults.

"In this case that is myself, because the club provided me with a very good squad and we have performed below our potential.

"We started the season badly and have had to play catch-up. Now, in the final few weeks of the season, we've met other difficulties. So we're still going through a tough time."
