Roma confirm Aquilani blow

AS Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani's season is definitely over following confirmation that he requires ankle surgery.

Aquilani has been out of action since mid-March with tendon problems in his right ankle, but Roma were hoping to have the midfielder available for the closing games of their Serie A season.

"Alberto Aquilani will travel to Amsterdam today, along with (team) doctor Stefano Del Signore, where Professor van Dijk will perform a surgical operation on Wednesday," read an injury update on the club's official website.

The Italy international has made just 19 appearances in all competitions this term.
