Lippi rejects Roma role

Lippi rejects Roma role
Thursday Apr 24 2008 10:44

Italy's World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi has ruled out taking a director of football role with AS Roma.

Lippi was reportedly targeted by the Giallorossi to assist coach Luciano Spalletti next season following rumours of an American-led takeover at the Stadio Olimpico.

However the 60-year-old, who has been out of work since leading Italy to World Cup success in summer 2006, is not looking to take such a role.

"That is not my work. I am a coach," said the former Juventus, Internazionale and Napoli coach.

Regarding a potential investment in the Rome club by American billionaire and political activist George Soros, he added: "For some years now Roma have been a mainstay in European football.

"A club with great players, an excellent tactician, entertaining play and a real future ahead of them will of course entice potential investors.

"It is also a large city, so I consider it fairly normal that investors would look to Roma."
