Borriello feels wanted again at Roma

Marco Borriello says he was delighted to have turned down the chance to move in the transfer window and says he feels wanted again at Roma.

After being first-choice under Claudio Ranieri for most of last season, he found himself benched by replacement Vincenzo Montella in favour of club captain Francesco Totti.

It led to speculation linking the Italy international striker with a move away from the Italian capital but despite several offers, Borriello is pleased he stayed put.

Under new coach Luis Enrique, Borriello believes he will have a significant part to play.

"There were three or four teams that persisted in trying to sign me right up until the end of the transfer window but I want to stay at Roma and I stayed because they made me feel important again," he told SkySport.

"I spoke to (sporting director Walter) Sabatini on August 30 and he told me I was coming off the transfer list and that I was an important player for Roma.

"The next day I also spoke to Luis Enrique and he said the same things.

"I'm even more convinced about staying and even if the fans don't have faith in me, the club and coach do."
