Totti tries to heal rift with coach Enrique

Roma club captain Francesco Totti has moved to quash talk of a rift between him and new coach Luis Enrique by urging fans to get behind the team this season.

Last week sports director Walter Sabbatini openly criticised Totti telling the veteran forward that he has to accept that he cannot play in every game and cannot upset team morale when he is dropped.

But now Totti has used his personal blog to show his commitment to the cause.

"We all have to rally around our new coach, the team and the club so we can start the season in the best way possible," he said.

"We will do that together and with just one objective: Roma, for whom I am the number one fan."

Totti couldn't hide his displeasure after he was only named on the bench for Roma's opening Europa League match of the season against Slovan Bratislava, nor when he was substituted in the return match.

That sparked a furore in the pro-Totti Roman press in which some were even calling for Enrique, who had been jeered by fans, to be sacked.
