Roma hit with Mohamed Salah ankle injury

Roma have suffered a blow with news that Mohamed Salah will be sidelined for up to six weeks with an ankle injury.

The Egyptian winger, who joined Roma on a season-long loan from Chelsea this summer, was stretchered off during Sunday's 2-0 win over Lazio following a harsh tackle from Senad Lulic.

Tests done on Monday ruled out a fracture in his right ankle but revealed ligament damage.

A statement from Roma read: "Mohamed Salah has undergone medical tests this morning after being forced off with an ankle injury in the 58th minute of last night's derby win over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico following a challenge from Senad Lulic.

"The tests revealed that Salah has sustained Grade II ligament damage to his right ankle.

"It is expected that the Giallorossi No. 11, will be out for between four and six weeks."

Salah has made 11 league appearances for Roma and is the club's third-highest scorer with six goals in all competitions.

The 23-year-old is set to miss four Serie A games as well as the Giallorossi's last two Champions League Group E encounters at Barcelona on November 24 and at home to BATE Borisov on December 9.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia will nevertheless be relieved that Salah's injury is not worse.

He said on his club's official website after Sunday's game: "I hope it's not too serious for Salah, but it'll be a miracle if there's no break or fracture.

"You've seen the images so there's not much else to say.

"Tackles like that don't belong, not even in the derby."
