Enrique confident De Rossi will stay at Roma

Roma coach Luis Enrique says he is sure emblematic midfielder Daniele De Rossi will stay at the club, just days after the player's agent said he thought a deal could be reached.

De Rossi, who has played his whole career with Roma, is being tracked by Manchester City's Italian coach Roberto Mancini but his agent Claudio Pasqualin said on Thursday he thought the 28-year-old would renew his contract.

The giallorosso midfielder's deal runs out at the end of the season and he is now free to negotiate with other clubs without Roma's consent.

But Enrique is counting on him remaining at the Stadio Olimpico.

"I don't have any doubts that Daniele De Rossi will stay at Roma so I'm not worried about anything," said the Spaniard.

"He will stay because that's what he wants. I don't think there's any doubt he'll stay but that's just my opinion."

Enrique seemed to point his finger at the club for not having tied up De Rossi sooner.

"Players of Daniele's level should not reach the last six months of their contract, the renewal should have happened some time ago.

"Many players don't think only about money. We know what Daniele means to the fans and what the club means to him. We won't lose him in January and not in the summer either."
