Wilshere's stats make you wonder why Arsenal keep him and why Manchester City would want him

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere has been a Premier League midfielder since 2009; managing only 6 goals and 12 assists in 109 appearances. He has on many occasions been touted as England’s next big thing but that tag has never come into fruition. Injuries have certainly done him no favours as he has been out of the game more than in it.

However, Wilshere’s tally is rather poor regardless of the various tribulations that may have and continue to block his progress. To score only six as a member of an Arsenal midfield known for its flair and attacking prowess is certainly unjustifiable.

Arsene Wenger may think that Wilshere will somehow come good or maybe he just hasn't had an opportunity to sell the player. This looks to be changing as the Arsenal manager has strengthened the Gunners midfield in the past two Transfer Windows with an exit for Jack Wilshere seeming imminent.

Almost on cue; Manchester City are suddenly interested in signing Wilshere in what has been a shock vote of confidence from Manuel Pellegrini. As it is, City have a depth of talent in Yaya Toure, Fernando and Fernandinho and keen attacking midfielders like David Silva and Jesus Navas. On paper there is no way Jack Wilshere would fit into the City side as he does not fill any void that may exist with the defending champions.

However, City may want Wilshere to lengthen their list of home grown players much like they did with Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell. If indeed that is the case, everyone is happy as City would not have to justify not playing Wilshere due to his incessant injury troubles whilst Arsenal have more space in their squad coupled with money in the bank.
