Will he, won't he? Ranieri admits he wants Gallas on a free from Arsenal

In limbo: William Gallas Claudio Ranieri has confirmed he is keen to sign Arsenal defender William Gallas on a Bosman free for Roma. The France defender came to England from Marseille in 2001, when Ranieri was in charge of Chelsea, and the Italian is keen for a reunification with the 32-year-old. 'Gallas is a player who has achieved so much in his career,' said Ranieri. 'I signed him when I was in charge at Chelsea and he has done well both for them and Arsenal. 'He is a top-level player and all top players are welcome at Roma.' Arsene Wenger is desperate to keep hold of Gallas and is ready toditch the club's policy of only offering one-year deals to players over30. Roma are already free to negotiate with the 32-year-old because he is in the final six months of his current deal. Gallas remains a key part of the Arsenal defence and has missed just two Barclays Premier League games all season.
