Wigan midfielder Charles N'Zogbia arrested on suspicion of driving test fraud

Wigan have leapt to the defence of Charles N'Zogbia after he was arrested on suspicion of getting someone else to do his driving test. The 23-year-old scored the Latics' stunning winner against Arsenal last weekend and had a hand in the first of their three goals. However, he spent yesterday being questioned bypolice at Sale, Greater Manchester. He had turned up for the theory section of his driving test but instead ended up being led away by police on suspicion of fraud. Driving force: Charles N'Zogbia celebrates Wigan's 3-2 defeat of Arsenal N'Zobgia, who lives in nearby Altrincham, was bailed until June 3 and could not be contacted last night following the incident at the Poplar Road Driving Test Centre. Wigan officials admitted theywere aware of the situation but declined to comment. He was arrested on suspicion of causing fraud by false representation after officials had alerted police of alleged irregularities - and a witness told The Sun: 'He looked shocked. He walked in and then walked out flanked by police officers.' Martinez said: 'The way I see the whole situation is that Charles has been badly advised, and he's made a naive mistake. 'We're going to look into every single detail before I give my full side of the story, but what is important is Charles has reacted in a very mature way. 'We need to remember he is a very young man, but he knows he is also a public figure, and he needs to make sure he becomes a stronger and more experiencedhuman being. 'In that respect we'll help him to ensure he is available to do what he does best which is playing football. We'll collaborate with the police and with Charles to make sure we get out of this situation in a positive way.' A spokesman for the Driving Standards Agency added: 'Following aninvestigation by the Driving Standards Agency, a-23-year old man wasarrested on 21 April at a driving test centre in the Greater Manchesterarea, on suspicion of fraud by misrepresentation.' Scene of the alleged crime: The Driving Test Centre in Sale A police spokesman said nobody else had been arrested, adding: 'At 8.20am at Sale Driving Test Centre officers arrested a23-year-old man on suspicion of committing fraud by falserepresentation. 'He was remanded in custody and has been bailed until 3 June pending further inquiries.' The law states that a theory test on the Highway Code must be taken andpassed before a practical test can be taken. N'Zogbia signed for Wigan from Newcastle for £6m last year after being branded 'Insomnia' by then Magpies boss Joe Kinnear and has been linked with a summer move to Arsenal or Liverpool. The French-born left-sided midfielder is also qualified to play for England and expressed his desire to do so earlier this year despite 13 appearances for the France under-21 side.  Whelan won't prevent Rodallega and N'Zogbia leaving Wigan for big gunsScharner vows to quit Wigan and claims four other clubs want himArsenal win was massive but we're not safe yet, insists Wigan's McCarthy Wigan 3 Arsenal 2: N'Zogbia leaves it late to end Gunners title hopesVladimir Stojkovic begs for time to keep Wigan dream aliveDodgy swords, the marathon by car, half a horse race, self-harm and infected boxing gloves - Sportsmail reveals the most devious sporting cheats in historyWIGAN ATHLETIC
