West Ham bid to hijack Arsenal's move for Chamakh as Wenger stalls on offer

West Ham United are said to be considering an offer for Marouane Chamakh after Bordeaux rejected claims that Arsenal had upped their bid for the Morocco striker. The French champions' president  Jean-Louis Triaud insists Arsene Wenger had not been in touch since the Gunners made a £6m bid laughed off as ridiculous by Chamakh's employers. Arsenal are considering a fresh approach and reports this morning claimed an £8m bid had been launched, but Triaud said: 'There is no sign of life from Arsenal. If Arsene Wenger really wants Marouane, I guess it will eventually manifest itself. 'Despite what has been said, I have no knowledge of a 9m euros (£7.75m) offer.' Bordeaux had initially wanted £15m for the 25-year-old but have dropped their demands to around the £10m mark following Chamakh's insistance that he will not sign a new contract. His deal expires next summer, when he could walk away for nothing. West Ham have emerged as bidders, according to French newspaper L'Equipe, though previous interest from Fulham, Blackburn, Tottenham and Sunderland has foundered. Bordeaux have drawn up a list of potential replacements, topped by Fulham's Diomansy Kamara and Valencia giant Nikola Zigic, once on Blackburn Rovers' wanted list.
