Wenger wants it wrapped up
30 Sep 2009 - 07:42:12
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has set his sights on swift qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League after Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Olympiacos.
The Gunners left it late but secured their second win from as many Group H games courtesy of goals in the final 12 minutes from Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin.
"We now have two back-to-back matches against Alkmaar so let's try to qualify quickly," said Wenger.
Wenger also claimed he was delighted with the overall team performance despite the Greek side almost holding out for a goalless draw.
"I believe we played a great first half and we had plenty of chances," he continued.
"You always want your team to take every chance but it is not always possible.
"We dominated this team from the first to the last minute, but they were well organised and disciplined. We kept our composure and kept going.
"We played with a desire to keep the discipline in the team. We did not do anything crazy. I always felt we could score.
"But I'm encouraged as well because to dominate the game like we did at that level is something outstanding.
"Of course it's frustrating that we didn't take complete advantage of it, but it's very positive.
"We have matured and a game like this shows just that."
