Wenger wants end to Cesc talk
18 Jul 2010 - 11:24:30
Arsene Wenger has demanded a halt to the continued speculation linking Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas with a move to Barcelona.
Wenger has vowed to keep hold of the Spain midfielder this summer despite Barcelona tabling one offer and refusing to give up hope of luring their former youth team star back to the Camp Nou.
Before the World Cup, Fabregas was reported to have told Wenger of his desire to return to Spain after seven seasons in north London.
But following a string of pleas from Barca players and new club president Sandro Rosell for Fabregas to return to Catalonia, Wenger has demanded an end to the protracted saga ahead of the new Premier League season.
Speaking after Saturday's 4-0 pre-season friendly victory over Barnet where he was again asked about the future of his skipper, Wenger replied: "There was a lot of unneeded talk. It is not pleasant to read that every day. Now, the story has to stop.
"Cesc is our captain, he is so important to us and we want to keep him, that is why we were not listening to any offers.
"It was not a problem of money, just the desire to keep him at the club."
