Wenger slams coaches
11 Oct 2006 - 09:31:37
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has criticised international bosses, likening them to car thieves.
The Gunners boss is frustrated at seeing his players return from international duty tired or injured, and is particulalry annoyed with France boss Raymond Domenech, who is set to use William Gallas against the Faroes Islands on Wednesday even though the player has been struggling with a hamstring injury.
Wenger said: "I feel like a man who has given the double of his key to a mate. The guy comes, takes your car, uses it for 10 days and leaves it in the middle of a field without any petrol.
"National team managers have the law with them and they have practically all chosen to act the same way - the easy way.
"Take this international break. The problem is I am going to get my players back Thursday evening. I have even had some coming back Friday, especially the ones going to South America.
"Then we play Watford on Saturday afternoon and CSKA in Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday. Playing 12 or 14 qualifying games in 10 or 12 months is madness.
"Sven-Goran Eriksson was the only one who used to come and talk to me regularly."
