Wenger rues wasted chances
25 Feb 2009 - 07:55:44
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted that his side had missed a chance to take a commanding lead from the first leg of their Champions League knockout round clash with Roma.
A Robin van Persie penalty was all the Gunners had to show for a fine performance against their Italian visitors at the Emirates Stadium, leaving the tie in the balance going into the second leg.
Wenger commented: "There was room to score more. We lack maybe a bit of spontaneity because we want to do so well.
"That is the regret we have - I am happy with our performance, but of course there was room to score more goals.
"We know we need to attack over there. If we score once that should be enough.
"The next game will of course be an interesting one because they will throw much more forward.
"We have three more games between this tie and the second leg. At the speed we lose players, it can be a difficulty for us."
