Wenger rues missed chances

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted his "fragile" side deserved to be knocked out of the Carling Cup after losing 2-0 to Burnley at the quarter-final stage.

The Gunners boss again used the competition to field a much-changed line-up and despite carving out a number of goalscoring opportunities against the Championship outfit, his youthful side were unable to find the net.

Clarets goalkeeper Brian Jensen was named man-of-the-match after he saved a number of chances when one-on-one with Arsenal strikers.

"We had six one-on-ones with the goalkeeper and didn't score and we were a bit fragile at the back as well," admitted Wenger.

"Overall we had plenty of chances but if you don't score your one-on-ones, you have to question your right to qualify.

"Tonight you have to praise their keeper and question the strikers."

  It is now clear to all that Bendtner is not a good player. He is always confused and undecided as to what to do with the ball. Give him the ball and he kills that attack. He gets the ball and throws it away needlessly. I do not understand why Wenger starts him instead of Simpson. All in all, the young gunners did well, they could have done better yesterday without Bendtner starting. Wenger should star teaching these young guns to shoot from outside the box, they are gunners so they shoot and do so without missing much.

  We need a very sharp striker who can support Adebayor upfront, somebody like Martins or another guy that is matured in how to play shot on target.
