Wenger not interested in Ruud
07 Dec 2009 - 09:06:30
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out the possibility of signing former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in the January transfer window.
Wenger has admitted that he is on the lookout for a new striker after losing Robin van Persie, Eduardo, Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner to injury in recent weeks.
However, van Nistelrooy will not be heading to the Emirates Stadium despite recent reports claiming the Gunners were keen to sign the
unsettled Netherlands striker.
Van Nistelrooy was public enemy number one among some Arsenal fans following several flashpoints while playing for United.
"It would not be the best of starts, bearing in mind our past relationship," explained Wenger.
Meanwhile, the Frenchman has admitted that finding a striker which fits all of his criteria will be difficult during the mid-season transfer window.
"We're at the beginning of December, if we are in the same situation with injuries in January then I will see," he continued.
"But we can't dream too much of finding a world-class player because that's what is needed to strengthen our team.
"But they also need not to be European cup-tied and who is also free so we must hope Father Christmas is good to us!"
