Wenger hopeful over Fabregas
28 Dec 2009 - 10:37:03
Arsene Wenger claims he has no regrets despite seeing Cesc Fabregas suffer a recurrence of his hamstring injury after scoring twice as a substitute during Sunday's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Fabregas came off the bench to score two decisive second-half goals at the Emirates Stadium before limping off with a fresh hamstring scare.
Wenger only intended to use his skipper in case of an emergency and is now keeping his fingers crossed that his talismanic midfielder is not seriously injured.
"It's a recurrence of his hamstring. We knew before the game it was not perfect," explained Wenger.
"We will see if we have long regrets or short regrets. I don't believe it's too bad, he doesn't think it's too bad.
"If it's a pull again it's three weeks (out), so we hope it is only a scar."
Meanwhile, Wenger has revealed that the Gunners will actively seek to sign a new striker in the January transfer window with both Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner absent with long-term injuries.
He added: "We are in the market with our eyes open. We are a bit short as we planned to play with Robin the whole season."
