Wenger has no Euro fears
11 Dec 2008 - 07:39:02
Arsene Wenger claims Arsenal fear nobody in Europe despite failing to win their Champions League group after losing 2-0 to FC Porto.
A much-changed Gunners side missing several key players went down comfortably in Portugal on Wednesday night when victory would have ensured their passage to the last 16 as group winners.
But Wenger claims the result will have no impact on the confidence levels of his players, who could now face the likes of group winners Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or AS Roma in the first knockout round.
"We can fight with everybody in Europe and can qualify against anybody," claimed Wenger.
"It is important now to come back in the championship and be in a good position. We now have some time to focus on that.
"We will see who we get in the draw and then look at the Champions League again in February."
Meanwhile, Wenger admitted his side had been disappointing on the night.
"In the first half, we were not in trouble until the first goal but from then on the game became more difficult," he added.
"We lost balls where you cannot afford to lose balls and we were in trouble.
"When we are 2-0 down the belief was not there and we were not strong enough to come back."
