Wenger enjoys Gunners win
27 Sep 2006 - 08:21:39
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was pleased with his side's 2-0 Champions League win at home to FC Porto, a game that saw Thierry Henry net his 50th European goal.
Henry's first-half header and an Alex Hleb strike after the restart secured a comfortable victory for the Gunners, with Wenger hoping to repeat last season's run to the final of the competition.
He said afterwards: "We want to continue to develop the club. Reaching the final last year has given us belief and frustration as well.
"We try to transform that frustration into more motivation. We were very, very close to the line.
"We have a young team and feel we can improve. The players that joined us are getting stronger and stronger. Players like William Gallas and Tomas Rosicky made great performances.
"Overall it was a great team performance against a strong Porto side. We feel it is getting better every game.
"Thierry doesn't only play to score goals, but to score 50 in Europe is a tremendous performance. The numbers don't lie.
"You will not find many players who have scored more goals in Europe than he has."
